Farm to School encompasses efforts that bring local or regionally produced foods into school cafeterias and classrooms; hands on learning activities such as school gardening, farm visits, and culinary classes; and the integration of food-related education into classroom curriculum. Farm to School promotes the health of children, farms and communities by connecting schools to local farms that supply nutritious, fresh, and minimally processed foods.

First, Protect the Patient from Harm

First, Protect the Patient from Harm

First, Protect the Patient from Harm

Today, unlike in the time of Hippocrates, evidence of harm may not become immediately obvious during healthcare interventions. For example, a lapse in attention while inserting a central line may result in a blood stream infection that becomes apparent days later. A wrong site surgery may go unnoticed until after the effects of anesthesia subside. An incorrect dosage of medication may not be recognized until an adverse drug event occurs.

Four Corners States Biomonitoring Consortium

In 2014, the state public health agencies of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah formed a regional biomonitoring consortium. In addition to sharing the only location in the nation where four states share a boundary point, these states have much in common in their geology, environment, economy and demographic makeup. In addition, they have many common environmental health concerns. By forming a consortium, each state's public health agency were able to take advantage of the laboratory capacity to better understand five particular environmental health concerns.

Give Well

Give Well

A nonprofit dedicated to finding outstanding giving opportunities and publishing the full details of our analysis to help donors decide where to give. Unlike charity evaluators that focus solely on financials, assessing administrative or fundraising costs, we conduct in-depth research aiming to determine how much good a given program accomplishes (in terms of lives saved, lives improved, etc.) per dollar spent. Rather than try to rate as many charities as possible, we focus on the few charities that stand out most in order to find and confidently recommend the best giving opportunities possible.
